Whilst at Sheffield Hallam University Andrew, our Director, had spent a year working at King Ecgbert School. Whilst working for a school, he noticed that there was a gap in the market for high-quality IT support for primary schools.
A few months later, degree in hand, Andrew decided to set up his own business. With no previous experience in creating and managing a business, Andrew tried to find out what was possible and what wasn't. The answer was, as all the fairytales taught us, anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
With a small office in the Broomhill suburb of Sheffield, Andrew slowly picked up a few schools and home users, and began to make it work...
2005 proved to be an important year for Resolve. We made the most of our successes and learnt from our failures, causing the company to grow, and grow stronger. It was because of Andrew's hard work in this year that Resolve was able to flourish in the years to come.
Although it was still just Andrew, some well-placed professional partnerships meant that Resolve picked up contracts with schools in Doncaster, and also acquired its first contract for a larger business. Andrew had to bring on a part-time administrator to help with the workload, and the groundwork was laid for an exciting future...
2006 was a year of real change and growth for Resolve. Andrew brought on the first full-time technicians, Ben and Jez, and a number of major installations and support contracts came along. Meanwhile, we were getting some good reviews.
Those things together meant that a bigger HQ was needed, and the whole operation moved from the old office in Broomhill to a new home on Abbeydale Road, in Southwest Sheffield.
Our new home was bigger, better, and there was room to grow. Which was fortunate, as that's exactly what happened...
As well as taking on another new recruit, Resolve made a renewed push into both schools and businesses in 2007. It was a year for taking stock and refining the systems and processes that had got us this far. We continued to focus on customer service, and saw our best year so far in terms of new business, turnover and customer satisfaction.
We also introduced a few nifty new ideas, such as the Resolve newsletter for schools. This was a great way to introduce ourselves, convey some of our personality to the schools, and give away some cool stuff in competitions.
Ben's starring role in the Resolve newsletter for schools. The "Ask Ben" column proved to be quite a favourite. Doesn't he look young!
Andrew was also getting noticed for all his hard work, including winning the Creating a Revolutionary Business award run by Sheffield Technology Parks.
Andrew is presented the CARB award by previous year's winner Jack Eames.
2008 saw Pete and Dan joining the team, seven new businesses signing up for a support contract, we picked up our biggest client yet, we achieved Microsoft Gold Partner Status and we doubled the turnover. Again. All in all, 2008 was looking like a great year, with business booming.
Following on from his win with Sheffield Business Parks the previous year, Andrew was also awarded "Best Contributor" with their "Developing a Revolutionary Business" course.
2009 seemed to be the year where everyone noticed the work we were doing. We had a number of award wins and business continued to grow. The Sheffield Business Awards were a real highlight of the year, and saw the team turn out in force in their black tie and evening gowns.
We brought on board Ross, Daniel and Gaf, who joined our rapidly growing remote team and we also picked up eight new support contracts including our biggest client yet.
2010 was a bumper year for new team members. We welcomed Mike as our Helpdesk Coordinator and Al as our first apprentice. We also brought Jude onto our remote team, Fran as Head of Finance, and Joe as Andrew's PA, whilst 13 new support contracts meant that it wasn't just the team that was growing.
Abbeydale Road was beginning to feel a little cramped, and the spirit of moving was in the air.
In July 2010 we moved offices to our current home on Little London Road. When we first moved there we were ten strong, but by the end of the year we were up to 13 - definitely more people than could have fitted into little old Abbeydale Road.
In 2011 we are looking at new, better ways to support our customers, we've brought on new team members (Pritin, Hussain, Holly and, our new apprentice, Matt), and are continuing to invest in training to ensure that our team are the best they can be. We were recertified a Microsoft Gold Partner for the fourth year running and are looking towards our best year yet.
